OUR STORY
Passion for avocados
Developed over decades by New Zealand specialist avocado growers David and Judi Grey the Avogrey® Greenskins are superior in nearly every way.
These new superfruit were carefully selected on the family orchard in Gisborne. Today they are grown by a number of selected growers who are just as passionate about producing New Zealand’s best-eating avocados.
“If you can find a GreyStar do not hesitate. This is the future of avocados.”
- Andrew Johnstone"I love the fact that they don’t brown when cut as we often only need half as there are just two of us. Beautiful flavour too."
- Sue Story“Wow, just had an Avogrey® avocado for lunch. Absolutely gorgeous."
- Christine Burke“These new varieties will be a sensation. Just what we need in the industry.”
- Greg Taylor"This green-skinned trio (‘GreyStar’, ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Titan’) is attracting a great deal of interest across the country and overseas, and presumably from every avocado epicurean within shouting distance of the orchard, including me.”
- Jane Wrigglesworth, Journalist, NZ Gardeners/Stuff NZ“You have tried the rest, now taste the BEST!”
- Trevor Mills“The avocados were beautiful aesthetically and gastronomically”.
- Beryl Chung“Loved Eclipse! Surprisingly, they became more creamy with age!! My favourite avocado. ”

EXTREMELY HEALTHY
ONCE YOU GET ME HOME
- You can tell when I’m ripe if I have a slight give near the stem (don’t press too hard).
- Another tip is to gently flick the stem; if it doesn’t come off, try again the next day, then if you slip a toothpick under my stem, and it slides in easily towards my stone, I’m ready to go.
- The best way to store me is in a bowl on the bench, but I’m not keen on direct sunlight.
- If you pop me in the fridge when I’m ripe, I can last a few weeks (my skin may darken, but my inside will be perfect).
WHERE TO BUY
It’s early days for our varieties, so volumes are only just starting to ramp up. Our 2024 crop will be sold through specialty produce retailers in the upper North Island.
With significant new plantings underway, expect to see Avogrey® Greenskins in more stores and locations from 2025.
